The Threat

After losing the 2020 election by more than seven million votes, Donald Trump and his allies launched an unprecedented effort to overturn the results – filing more than 60 baseless legal challenges and pressuring officials to subvert the will of the voters.

They failed. Repeatedly and decisively.

“The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.”

Franklin D. Roosevelt

But that effort was not a one-time event – it was the beginning of a sustained campaign to undermine confidence in American elections.

In the years since, Trump and his allies have escalated their attacks.

They are continuing to spread false claims of widespread voter fraud, are actively pushing new federal proposals like the SAVE Act that will make it harder for Americans to vote, and are seizing voter rolls in states like Georgia, Arizona, and California. None of these efforts are based in fact or reality, and all are specifically designed to disenfranchise American citizens and undermine confidence in our democratic institutions.

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.”

Ronald Reagan

Election officials across the country are facing increased threats and harassment. Baseless legal challenges are being normalized as a political strategy. And coordinated efforts to interfere with certification and administration of elections are expanding, particularly in key battleground states.

This is not a relic of 2020. It is an evolving and intensifying strategy.

Protecting our democracy requires vigilance, preparation, and sustained investment. We know what these threats look like – and we are committed to ensuring they do not succeed.
